The Schramm Loewner Evolution

Oded Schramms groundbreaking invention of SLE in 1999 changed the way in which probabilists and theoretical physicists think about two dimensional so-called critical lattice models. It also led to solutions of several outstanding problems, such as Mandelbrots conjecture about the Brownian frontier. I will explain what SLE is, and will describe some of the highlights of this theory. The talk will be geared at the non-expert.
