WORKSHOP ON MODEL THEORY
Model theory is a branch of mathematical logic. It is mainly concerned with definability problems in structures and classes of structures. Model theory has experienced an extraordinary development in the last decades and recently it has been able to make important contributions to other areas of mathematics as Diophantine geometry or real algebraic geometry.
This workshop aims to report on the new achievements and to provide an occasion for discussion and further advance of research. Students and young researchers are especially encouraged to attend.
Invited Lectures:
The workshop is hosted by the recently founded Institut de Matemàtica de la Universitat de
Barcelona (IMUB) and it is supported by the Departament de Filosofia of the
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Departament de Lògica, Història i
Filosofia de la Ciència of the Universitat de Barcelona and by the Departament de
Matemàtica Aplicada II of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. All the
talks will take place at the Facultat de
Matemàtiques of the Universitat de Barcelona, in the center of the city. The
workshop is financially supported by Universitat
Autònoma Barcelona, the Universitat de
Barcelona, the Universitat Politècnica de
Catalunya and the Departament d'Universitats, Recerca i Societat de
la Informaciò (DURSI) of the Catalan Government. We expect to obtain funds also from the Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología of the Spanish
Government.

We have reserved a limited number of
rooms at the Residencia de Investigadores of the Centro Superior de
Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) and at the hotel La Terrasa. Both are near
Les Rambles, within a walking distance to the Faculty of Mathematics. The prices
are extremely convenient compared with the present rates of hotels in Barcelona.
To reserve contact Pilar Dellunde (pilar@iiia.csic.es). Do it as soon as
possible, particularly in the case of La Terrasa, since the number of
reservations is limited. La Terrasa is especially appropriate for those wanting
