IMUB Universitat de Barcelona

Location

The postal address of the IMUB is the following:

Institut de Matemàtica
Universitat de Barcelona
Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585
08007 Barcelona, Spain

The IMUB is located on the upper floor (purple mark on the map) of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona, on the premises of the Mathematics Faculty. The brown dots on the map indicate the two main entrances to the building.

How to arrive

The Mathematics Faculty (blue dot below) is located next to Plaça de la Universitat (University Square). The subway lines L1 (red) and L2 (purple) stop there; see a metro and train map. Many city buses, including 9, 14, 24, 41, 50, 54, 55, 56, 58, 59, and 66, pass through Plaça de la Universitat.

The IMUB is at a short walking distance from the neuralgic city centre, Plaça de Catalunya (large brown dot on the map).

There are several ways to arrive to Plaça de Catalunya:

Coming by plane

Aerobus

The Aerobus runs almost continually between the Barcelona Airport and Plaça de Catalunya. Incoming buses also stop at Plaça de la Universitat. The ride takes 30-40 minutes and costs 5.05 euros (or 8.75 euros if you buy a return ticket). Tickets may be purchased on the bus.

Beware that buses reaching terminals T1 and T2 are distinct. Both operate daily, from 5.30 to 0.30 outbound and from 6.00 to 1.00 inbound. For further information, see the Aerobus website.

Train

There is one train line (R2) from the airport to the city. The relevant stations (Sants Estació and Passeig de Gràcia) can also be found on the metro and train map. The train station is located close to the T2 terminal. If your flight leaves from or lands on terminal T1, then you must take a (free) shuttle bus between the two terminals.

Trains depart approximately every half hour from 5.30 to 23.00 and the ride takes around 30 minutes; see the airport train timetable for additional information.

Taxi

A taxi ride from the airport to Plaça de Catalunya may require 20-30 minutes and cost around 25 euros, depending on traffic. There is a small surcharge on airport taxis and there may be additional charges for holidays, late night and luggage. It is advisable to ask for a receipt in any case. Other advice and more information can be found in the Barcelona Tourist Guide.

Coming by train

If you arrive to Barcelona by train then you will probably arrive at either Sants Estació or Estació de França. From Sants you can take a train or a subway to Plaça de Catalunya, and continue as above. From Estació de França, take the subway to Plaça de Catalunya from the nearby Barceloneta station or simply walk up Via Laietana or La Rambla to Plaça de Catalunya (1.5 km).

Coming by car

The University of Barcelona is located in the city centre. Coming from the north, merge into highway C-33 from AP-7 towards Barcelona. After a while, follow signs to Rondes and, in particular, to Ronda Litoral. This is (half of) a belt that surrounds the city bordering the sea. Take exit 28 (Glòries - Gran Via) which will take you into the city. Once you find the first traffic light, you are already in Gran Via, the street where the IMUB is located. But this is a one way street (and not your way). Thus, make a right turn and immediately a left turn to take a parallel street called Diputació. Follow this street for a good while until you cross Balmes. Turn left there and you will see the university building on your right at the end of the block.
